Things to do in Kamares, Sifnos

Kamares will be your port of entry to Sifnos when arriving by boat. Are there things to do in Kamares Sifnos, or should travelers continue onward to other shores?

If you prefer convenience, we recommend staying in Kamares as it is close to the port and also has a bus station if you want to visit other spots in the island. Here are the best things to do in Kamares:

Beaches and Sunsets

Kamares is the surprising home to the longest beach on Sifnos island. Despite the boat traffic the waters are incredibly clear and the beach is sandy and clean. Kamares Beach is also awarded a blue flag status indicating its cleanliness. Kamares town and the entire beachfront is nestled in a cove surrounded by rugged hills - it's a beautiful location and a perfect sunset spot.

Restaurants and Hotels

The port town is home to a number of hotels and highly rated restaurants. Check out some restaurants that uses their own farm produce such as Meropi and Simos, ensuring fresh and healthy dishes.

Panoramic Views

You can hike or take a scooter or ATV up to Agios Symeon, a church high above the cliffs, offering views across all of Sifnos. Pro tip: Choose golden hour when you visit.

Go on a Boat Tour

Explore hidden beaches and caves around the island by taking a boat tour. Some tours include stops at neighboring islands like Polyaigos and Kimolos.

Where to stay in Kamares: Grand View, Seaside Villa, Aegean Dream House

Summary: Kamares, Sifnos surprised us - it's landscapes are beautiful, with a great beach and walking streets. If staying in other areas it may make sense to spend your final night in Sifnos in Kamares depending on the time of your ship's departure. A relaxing evening on the beach, then enjoying Greek cuisine at sunset overlooking the bay is not a bad way to end your trip.

Things to do in Apollonia, Sifnos

As the capital and largest town of the island, you'll find no shortage of things to do in Apollonia Sifnos. We stayed in Apollonia and really liked it as it is quite in the center of the island a short bus trip to neighboring towns.

Hike the Sifnos Trails

With a well-marked network of hiking trails, Sifnos offers breathtaking walks through olive groves, villages, and coastal cliffs. You can take the trail to Kastro and Faros from here.

Wander Around Town

Explore the charming shops, cafes, and restaurants. Don’t miss the picturesque alleys lined with traditional Cycladic architecture. The pedestrian street called steno is beautiful and is the central hub of the island.

Visit a Farm

Anthi Farm and Narlis Farm are two popular spots open to the public. See the animals, and learn about Greek cuisine and cheese making.

Learn Sifnos History

Visit the museum attached to The Church of Saint Andrew to learn more about the island's history and enjoy panoramic views.

What to do in Kastro, Sifnos

A higly-recommended spot from the locals, the town of Kastro is a highlight of the island for good reason. The town's name translates to castle in English, is the most medieval and historic village in Sifnos.

Explore the Historic Village

The capital of Sifnos until 1836, Kastro features narrow alleyways, ancient ruins, and stunning sea views. The area is small but is likely the most picturesque walking streets on Sifnos.

Walk to Church of the Seven Martyrs

Perched on a cliffside, the church adjacent to the sea is a fantastic photo spot. This is probably our favorite spot in the island of Sifnos.

Visit the Archaeological Site

Explore the Archaeological Museum of Sifnos with exhibits from early Bronze Age to the late Byzantine period.

Where to stay in Kastro: Athina Exquisite Houses, Hidden Gem, Villa Lemonia

Summary: The main thing to do in Kastro Sifnos is to simply explore the picturesque town and the Church of Seven Martyrs. It'll sure to be a highlight of the trip, but it can also be done in a single day. Hiking or taking the bus from Apollonia is a convenient way to explore the medieval town.

Things to do in Faros, Sifnos

Faros is a desirable region of Sifnos for good reason. The beachfront settlement offers some of the most picturesque beaches, coves, and clear waters on the island.

Have a Beach Day, Everyday

Faros attracts many travellers with its beautiful sandy beaches. Paralia Faros and Fassolou Beach are within the village itself. Apokofto Beach is also within walking distance. You can even take the trail to Platis Gialos, a neighboring beach town, and is also an excellent spot to stay nestled within the scenic mountains.

Visit the Monastery of Chrissopigi

This iconic monastery is set on a rocky peninsula and is one of Sifnos’ most photographed landmarks. The coastal hiking trail provides excellent views.

Where to stay in Faros: Venereum Apartments (Faros) or Ammos Sifnos Village (Platis Gialos)

Summary: Although there are not a lot of things to do in Faros Sifnos, that may be the appeal of the place to some. Relaxing on the beach and in the cafes of this sleepy seaside village is what many travelers come to Sifnos for.

Things to do in Vathi Sifnos

In addition to Faros and Platis Gialos, Vathi is another picture-perfect beach resort town. The beaches are sandy and the laid back vibes are great.

Lounge on the beach

Of course, this is the main reason to stay in Vathi. The beach is clean and sandy, and as it is within a cove, the water is calm and perfect for a relaxing swim. We also found several excellent and affordable beachfront bars and restaurants. We had a mastelo in Okeanida and we highly recommend it!

Hit the Hiking Trails

Like anywhere in Sifnos, you're always near a hiking trail. The ones near Vathi are a little more strenuous, taking you up the mountains. You can visit some mountain-top monasteries along the way, which provide incredible panoramas of all of Sifnos.

A bus stop connects Vathi to the rest of Sifnos - many travelers stay here then hop on a bus to explore the island.
