Couple posting on Dubrovnik Old Town City walls, entrance with Dubrovnik Pass

Dubrovnik with its historical landmarks, well-preserved Old Town and stunning views is the perfect destination for couples looking for a romantic getaway. There are plenty of options for exploration and unwinding. We’ll break down all the top places to stay in or near Dubrovnik that will help you book your couples’ escape.

In a previous post, we have listed the best neighborhoods to stay in Dubrovnik. This post will only focus on couples seeking a romantic trip; perhaps an anniversary, birthday or any special occasion. So, without further delay, let’s get right into it.

Where to Stay in Dubrovnik for Couples

For a romantic getaway, couples often look for stunning views, luxurious amenities, and a balance of seclusion and accessibility to fine dining within the beautiful Old Town. This is ultimately the main decision to make: should you stay within the Old Town city walls, to be in the heart of the action, or is it best to have a more secluded and intimate stay nearby?

Here are our top recommendations for staying in Dubrovnik to make the most of your couples’ getaway. We divided our top recommendations per neighborhood:

1. Old Town (Stari Grad)

Dubrovnik Old Town is the main part of the city within the picturesque medieval city walls, and is where you’ll spend the majority of your trip. Most of the historic sights, beautiful city streets and things to do are within the walls. Staying in the heart of the city will of course come with some advantages and disadvantages.

Stays within Old Town are the most expensive, for starters. You get to wake up right in the heart of the city, which allows you to walk around and take incredible photos before the large crowds arrive. You don’t have to pay for Ubers or public busses twice per day, and you get to maximize your time spent within Old Town. We loved watching the sunset at the harbor viewpoint (close to Ploče gate) before walking to our hotel.

The crowds and the noise may be a problem for some as well, although we did not find this to be a problem. Stays are limited as well; there are no large hotels here, so your options will be limited to older, historic homes which have been converted into vacation rentals. Here are a few of our favourites:

  • The Pucic Palace is an 18th century baroque palace with stone walls offering a more romantic vibe. They also offer free breakfast and airport shuttle.
  • Old Town Garden Apartments is a perfect stay if you are looking for a peaceful place inside the Old Town.
  • Boutique Hotel Stari Grad is a boutique hotel inside the city walls with balcony views and rooftop restaurant.

2. Ploče

Ploče Dubrovnik is the perfect place for couples who want to find a luxurious and intimate stay, while being within walking distance of the Old Town city walls. Ploče is the neighbourhood just outside of the eastern gate (Ploče gate). Here you can get incredible views of the entirety of Dubrovnik framed by the sea, which is a spectacular photo spot at sunset.

Modern, luxury accommodations are plentiful in Ploče Dubrovnik:

  • Hotel Excelsior is 5-star hotel offering elegant rooms sea views, indoor pool, hot tub and sauna great for travel couples looking for a high-end relaxing stay.
  • Ragusa Sea View Apartment offers spacious accommodation in Ploce walking distance to Dubrovnik Old Town with a full kitchen and terrace with sea view.
  • Villa Dubrovnik is a 5-star hotel with spacious rooms and terrace, and a short walk from Dubrovnik Old Town. Villa Dubrovnik also has an indoor swimming pool and a spa and wellness center perfect for relaxing after a long day of exploration.

3. Lapad Peninsula

Lapad Peninsula is a calmer and quieter, beach-centric area which has easy access to Dubrovnik city. This area includes the neighborhoods of Lapad and Babin Kuk. The vibe is much more relaxed and residential compared to Old Town. It features a nice coastal walk, numerous cafés, and beautiful pebble beaches.

It offers a great escape from the crowds. You can spend your days under the sun at Sunset Beach or Cava Beach, and then take a quick, frequent bus ride (about 10-15 minutes) to the Old Town when you want to sight-see.

Many highly-rated romantic hotels are found here, often with great spa facilities and sea views:

  • Rixos Premium Dubrovnik is a highly-rated 5-star hotel with indoor and outdoor pools, panoramic sea views, bars and restaurants, and a 2-storey spa center with Turkish bath, and just a 15-min walk to Dubrovnik Old Town. This is a perfect stay for families and travel couples.
  • Grand Hotel Park is an excellent stay in Lapad and only 100 metres away from the beach. It has indoor and outdoor pools, spa are and fitness center.
  • President Hotel, Valamar Collection is an exceptional stay with beachfront views and beach access. There are sauna, hot tub and steam room perfect for couples who wish to unwind. President Hotel also has fitness center, free bikes and games room.
  • Hotel More is an excellent stay with stunning sea views and garden views with 2 on-site restaurants and cave bar. Hotel More also provides free breakfast, airport shuttle, outdoor pool and spa and wellness center.
