Naoussa Paros: Complete Guide of a Charming Island Town

On the northern coast of Paros, Naoussa is a picturesque fishing village that has transformed into the most popular destination on the Greek island. Picturesque whitewashed buildings, vibrant harbor, stunning beaches; Naoussa retains its traditional Greek charm within one of the most luxurious towns in the Cyclades. Here’s everything you need to know about visiting Naoussa Paros in one of Greece’s top islands.

Naoussa’s History
Naoussa has a maritime history that dates back to ancient times. The village played a crucial role during the Venetian rule, as evidenced by the Venetian Castle at the harbor. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Naoussa was frequently attacked by pirates, and remnants of fortifications still stand today. Over the years, the town has evolved from a humble fishing community into one of Greece’s top tourism destinations, all while preserving its authentic Cycladic charm.
Things to See in Naoussa Paros
1. Naoussa Paros Harbor
The heart of Naoussa is its charming harbor, where traditional fishing boats bob in the turquoise waters. Lined with tavernas, bars, and boutique shops, the harbor is the perfect place to soak in the village’s lively yet laid-back atmosphere. This is surely the best spot in Naoussa Paros to grab a sunset dinner or drinks.

2. Venetian Castle (Kastelli)
Dating back to the 15th century, the Venetian Castle of Naoussa stands as a reminder of the island’s medieval past. The partially submerged ruins provide an incredible backdrop for sunset views and photography.

3. Explore the Walking Streets
The narrow streets near the harbour are coloured a beautiful white and blue, and are lined with shops, bars and restaurants. The place comes alive at night and it’s absolutely where you will be, and should be, spending a lot of your time in Naoussa Paros. Luxury shops and beautiful restaurants are fun to walk through even if you don’t partake.

4. Faneromeni (Panagía) Church
The beautiful church seen from the harbour, Faneromeni is Paros’ third largest church. This Greek Orthodox church is open most days for viewing. The marble and gold-filled church is filled with history and can’t be missed. We’d recommend stepping inside any church you see with open doors – just about every one in Naoussa is filled with historical Byzantine relics and paintings which are impressive to see.

5. Paros Park
Just a short distance from Naoussa, Paros Park is a nature reserve with hiking trails, secluded beaches, and the historic Monastery of Agios Ioannis Detis. It’s an excellent spot for a day of exploration. We spent a half day here doing hikes and then a relaxing swim at Perikopetra Beach.

6. Kolymbithres Beach
One of Paros’ most famous beaches, Kolymbithres is known for its unique rock formations and crystal-clear waters. It’s a must-visit for beach lovers and photographers alike. Lageri Beach is another excellent option. Both are accessible from a 5-minute drive, or 10-minute boat ride from Naoussa harbour.

If you don’t have transport, Piperi Beach and Agioi Anargyroi are the two more popular beaches within Naoussa, although they aren’t as picturesque as the ones just outside the town.
7. Moraitis Winery
Sample some of Paros’ finest wines and learn about the island’s wine-making tradition. They offer daily tours several times a day, or you can stop by any time for tasting or for their restaurant. If you want to take their tour, which we’d highly recommend, reservations will be mandatory in peak season as they quickly fill up.
